Blood Coast Siren Outfit, 2026

I designed and made the outfit of the Siren in Asmaa Jama’s short film Blood Coast. I developed the design to reflect the pearl diving that the character died doing. The outfit is made from faux silk, linen and herringbone cotton.

The Blood Coast, 2026, Asmaa Jama. On show at Somalia Pavillion, 61st Venice Bienniale. Experimental moving image piece part of a broader narrative project. Shot in Xamar, Mogadishu Somalia and in the UK.

It explores the history of two extractive intersecting trades along the Indian Ocean, pearl diving and the Afro-Arab slave trade.
